The Wedding

A friend of mine was engaged for several years before finally taking the plunge and getting married, so she and her fiancé wanted to avoid the anxiety that often occurs with large, elaborate ceremonies. They decided to have a small, casual wedding on the beach with only family members and very close friends present.

I was one of the few friends invited to attend this beautiful event, and I have to admit that the beach theme wedding ideas I gained from being part of something so beautiful have stuck with me to this day! Just before sunset, we all gathered on the beach in front of our hotel in Florida. The wedding was arranged with the hotel so that an area for the ceremony was roped off from the general public.

The bride wore a white sundress and the groom wore a pair of white pants with a pastel Hawaiian shirt. Both were barefoot. There were no attendants, and the couple was married by a local minister who was experienced with outdoor weddings. The few guests sat on lounge chairs provided by the hotel.

Invitations

The invitations, which were printed on off-white cardstock, featured a heart drawn in the sand with the bride and groom's name inside, and images of seashells and a sand dollar. The invitation envelopes were a light turquoise color to symbolize the ocean. Beach wedding decorations

The outdoor ceremony was so simple that the decorations didn't need to be elaborate. Two lit tiki torches were stuck in the sand to represent an altar, and the bride and groom stood with the minister beside the tiki torches. There were also white and pink flower garlands strung along the ropes used to separate the wedding area from the general beach. The tiki torches and flowers were simple touches to add to the beach's natural beauty.

Wedding Cake And Favors

A small reception was held poolside at the hotel, and a gorgeous cake was set up next to the buffet table. It was a white-iced three-tier cake decorated with seashells made from frosting and cookie-crumbles "sand." As for wedding favors, they were also unforgettable- there were so few guests that we were each presented with individual boxes of white Godiva chocolates shaped like seashells! All in all, this was one of the most beautiful intimate weddings I have ever attended - beachside or otherwise.
