Quick'n Easy Western Wedding Ideas

western wedding ideas If you're trying to plan a memorable wedding, these Western wedding ideas will have you saying, "Yee-haw!"

The Western-themed wedding that I attended last year was one of the most creative celebrations I've been to in ages. My friends were married on the grounds of a small horse farm that also had a hall used for parties and receptions. If "simple" is a word that keeps coming to mind as you plan your own wedding, then these Western wedding ideas are definitely for you.

Invitations

I helped the bride choose the wedding invitations myself. They were a yellowish-brown color, to look like a wrinkled old Wild West newspaper. A pair of silver entwined horse shoes decorated the top of the card. It explained the theme of the wedding along with the date and time, and included instructions for the guests to wear their favorite jeans and boots!

The Ceremony

The ceremony itself was held outdoors under a simple white tent, and bales of hay were arranged sporadically around the grass to act as decorations. The bride and groom wore blue jeans, white shirts, and cowboy boots-along with cowboy hats, of course! The bridesmaids and groomsmen also wore jeans and boots, but the ladies wore pink T-shirts while the men wore black. No fancy bouquets of red roses at this wedding! The bride and her bridesmaids carried bunches of wildflowers held together with twine.

Once the celebration moved indoors, things really got kickin! Instead of traditional round tables, a dozen or so wooden picnic tables were set up in the reception hall. This got rid of the need for chairs and tablecloths, and the picnic tables themselves served as decoration. Metal watering cans holding various wildflowers acted as centerpieces along with bottles of ketchup, mustard, and various condiments. That's right, the food at this party was simple, too - the caterers were grilling hamburgers, hotdogs, and corn on the cob right outside the front door, and everyone loved it! The overall appearance of the reception hall and the easy menu are Western wedding ideas that most people can easily appreciate.

Wedding Cake

A dessert table was set up near the grill, and along with a variety of pies stood the center of attraction-the Western wedding cake! It was a two-tier chocolate cake iced with dark brown icing to simulate the appearance of leather. Rope made of icing was wrapped along the bottom tier, and a pair of his and hers cowboy boots-one pink, one black-stood on top of the cake in place of a miniature bride and groom.

Favors

Every single guest was sent home with a small metal bucket full of peanuts and a clear plastic bag full of sugar cookies shaped like horses. The bags were fastened with small pieces of twine and a tag with the bride and groom's name.

All in all, it was one of the best weddings I've ever attended-especially since I got to wear jeans!
